STRENGTH CONTRAST & BOLDNESS GALVANISES IN ONE EXHIBITION

With references from Brancusi and Giacometti in strong sculptural totemic forms through to interpretations of the landscape around Hill End, the opening show for 2012 is a strong and inspired collection of highly desirable artworks from two well recognised artists, Julie Williams and Hui Selwood.

Julie works by applying heavily contrasted layers of paint with the fine lines of ghostly heritage buildings that evoke a deep response in the viewer. Against these, the works of Hui Selwood, stand as totemic forms that imply the presence of souls among the ruins.

This is a natural alliance between 2 artists and friends who work from the heartland of the gold rush in Hill End near Bathurst NSW.

Julie Williams - Painter
My art practice primarily involves using painting as a problem solving experience to produce contemporary works with historical references. Hi everyone

Jayes Gallery Cafe & Sculpture Gardens re-opened on 18 January with many changes over the end of the year. The outdoor alfresco area has been refurbished and provides a shady place to find respite from the summer sun with a cool drink or coffee on those lazy afternoons. You can take a stroll around the sculpture garden or a look through the galleries.

The cafe now features a new menu with foods from the regions' finest chefs, main meals from the kitchen of Michael Manners and treats by Shaun Arantz of Racine. As well, Adelaide Harris, chef and fine food writer is preparing delicious cakes to be served with our Lavazza Coffees! So if you are looking for something scrumptious, pop in today!

Gallery 1 has a selection of works from the stockroom and our stable of the regions' fine artists along with glass by Keith Rowe and ceramics by Marjo Carter.

Gallery 2 will become our aboriginal section in the near future as Jayes now has a range of local aboriginal art works and craft items.

The Gift Shop has funky brooches from Sugden and Hamilton, silversmithing from Sarah Whitlock along with a range of interesting pieces sourced from around Australia. A new range in of silk and felt scarves in bright colours and children's clothes hand made by Sambience.

We will continue to promote the fine art and food of the Mt Canobolas region throughout the coming year with our 2012 calendar of solo shows already firmly in place. We look forward to an exciting year ahead and will be happy to see you at Jayes.

During 2011, the management and staff at Jayes were pleased to see that all our customers continued to support the gallery, artists and sculptors with good attendances at most of the opening nights! A musical special event featuring Josephine Jagger-Manners, Michael Caulfield & Ray Vanderby provided a highlight of the Autumn calendar, the Third Dimension - annual sculpture event is still on and solo shows with many of our regular stable and new artists were a feature each month.

It's been a year of changes with Grant Smith, our Chef leaving the cafe to start a new career and the cafe has a new menu now featuring the recipes of the region's finest chefs. We look forward to seeing you in the New Year as we have a wonderful calendar of solo shows, sculptors and ceramicists already booked for 2012. It is promising to be an incredible year for Jayes.

In a time when many collectors are abandoning the city galleries, Jayes continues to provide a superb alternative as most of our stable of artists are also represented in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra galleries and we continue to complement these with exciting new and emerging artists. Collectible and affordable underway well in time for Christmas!

This year, Jayes Gallery has devoted Gallery 1 to the new artists collective from the region, Colour City Creatives. These artists have joined together to create working artisan studios, an innovative initiative in the old Barracks once used by State Rail in Orange City.

The artists themselves however come from far and wide with Millthorpe, Molong and Stuart Town artists included in the group. This is an exciting venture and so far has produced some remarkable results and we are proud to have been able to secure these works for this year's "Collectible & Affordable" show.

Open from now till 18 December, so make your way out to Molong, just 20 minutes west of Orange to see this memorable exhibition displaying some of the region's finer artists.

This exhibition presents strong emotional works that have an inherent dark quality about them whilst at the same time, being quite adventurous with deep colours, free, lush brush strokes. They bring out questions in the viewers’ minds as the artist has poured her deepest memories into the works. A commanding performance from artist, Kerry Nichols on her previous life in Mexico.

The artist has said of her works: “Our joyous times are so often overshadowed by tragedy. Some learn to cope – others don’t, others learn to live with happiness and tragedy side by side.”

Having lived in Mexico for almost half my life, I am constantly drawn to its colour, its whimsicalness, its gaiety and tragedy. I believe this is my subconscious inspiration.

As I paint in the tranquillity of Molong, my brush takes me on a journey through my past; a time of kidnapping and intimidation, a time of colour and laughter, a time of extreme joy and unbearable sadness.

Half the time I don’t know what I’m going to paint…my brush and paints dictate and I enjoy the journey.”

Fine Day for Opening of Sculpture Show!

Despite the prediction of a cold day, the opening of Jayes Annual Sculpture Show, the THIRD Dimension was pleasant and fine. Art lovers were introduced to Moody's Wines with Tony Moody sharing his fine wines on the day, Alan Sisley, Regional Gallery Director from Orange capably opened the show likening the sculptures to 'frozen music', an analogy that gave us all something to think about while looking at the 3D works on show.

Art lovers and collectors were delighted with performances from budding young musicians from Molong Public School. The gallery is becoming quite the cultural heart of the area with many different art forms being encouraged throughout the year.

With an ongoing calendar of monthly solo shows, music events and the annual scultpure show, you can keep abreast of the gallery's latest offerings by subscribing to our monthly newsletter. The Feminine Aspect in Art for September (Spring!)

Quite often we come across art that seduces the viewers. This will be the experience when the next exhibition goes on display at Jayes Gallery in Molong in Spring.

We are pleased to be able to bring to you, two beautiful exhibitions by two very feminine and complementary artists. The Yin (feminine force) of life is expressed very clearly in the works of both of these regional and rurally based artists as they express the landscapes they live in. Both respond to the forces of creation and seek to express the numinous in their works. Working in acrylics and oils lusciously applied to canvas, the sensuality of life itself can be found by scrutinizing the generous brush strokes of these two women.

Aida’s work emerges out of the landscape in a subconscious recognition of how the earth gives birth, nurtures, sustains and eventually reclaims the life on it.

She says of her work “I work in a variety of mediums including oils acrylics and ink and while working with a particular location in mind I am not bound by an exact recreation – I prefer to let intuition and the medium dictate what happens on the surface, exploring images which arrest the eye and are arrived at spontaneously.

Working from life and landscape as a jumping off point. I like to push the source material to capture an atmosphere or mood - visually echoing memories and emotions. This work is inspired by the elements of weather seen at dawn.”

The ever-changing landscape of Lucy’s immediate environment and the movement of life itself forms inspiration for her artworks. These pieces have are containments of the motion of life’s forces and each can be used as a mantra, a meditation of energy and creation.

"Everywhere I turn there are endless opportunities to create a moment of stillness from the energy and beauty of life."

Trekking to Molong for Art & Sculpture!

A happy and enthusiastic crowd made the way to Molong on the weekend to attend the opening of "Top End Trekking" and "In the Shadows of Canobolas" - two excellent artists with two different views of the Australian landscape. Denis's works are evocative of Mt Canobolas region with it's lush fields and verdant rolling hills while Joy is inspired by the outback colours of red and blue and wide open deserts.

The afternoon is always a pleasant way to spend a day, the artists share their ideas and talents with friends and art lovers, and Molong is just a short distance from Orange and other regional towns and villages. This is a formula for success!

Hot/Cool, Desert/Mountains, Mixed Media/Oils, Joy/Denis

The next exhibition at Jayes features two artists from Orange - Denis Bradley & Joy Engelman! These two landscape inspired artists couldn't be more different!

Denis focuses on the 'cool' in nature with his broad masculine strokes in oil on board. His palette consists of the deep greens and blues found in the abundant bush land of the Canobolas area. Brought up on a farm in the Orange region, Denis's artistic soul is imbued with the verdant greens of Spring, the golds of Summer wheat fields and the lush growth of gum forests.

Joy Engelman however, is inspired these days by a different hue . Her mixed media works on paper and canvas are created from multiple layers of reds, golds and oranges. She usually takes an aerial view of the landscapes that she loves but often sits down to take a more formal approach as well.

This next exhibition has been the result of a recent journey north to Broome and out to the Bungle Bungles in Western Australia. She laughingly calls it a 'bivouac with a view' as she recounts her daily struggles with putting her shoes on legs that 'are 150 cms too long for my arms' and her nightly grapples with a swag that was seemingly attempting to strangle her!

These are bright and beautiful works though that capture the colours of the desert and WA landscape as she finds a new palette of colours to describe that land.

Jayes invites you to join at the opening on Sunday 14 August at 2 pm to meet the artists and view their new works.

Michael Carroll's "Rurally Yours!" - bush snippets

Jayes is pleased to bring you Michael Carroll's collection of small inspired works on a bush theme.... there's line drawings of farm animals, little paintings, small works and much much more .... all executed with the unerring eye that we have come to associate with Michael.

The show opens on Saturday 2 July from 2 - 4 pm with Michael in attendance to answer your questions and generally talk about art. This is a celebration of life in the country with affordable works, all of which are individual pieces.

Fresh Artists from Fresh Arts Inc

There's nothing quite as electric as standing in a room full of artists and the opening of of "Alchemy" didn't let us down! A room full of smiles and laughter, made the day more than worthwhile.

The variety of ideas behind the works lead you to ponder just how many ways there are of 'seeing' a particular subject. Each artist has provided a statement with the works and these are indeed well worth taking the time to read to gain an insight into the mind of each artist as they have tackled this mysterious subject.

Nicole Parkins

Autumn is on it’s way and while the countryside gets painted in asounding colours right before our eyes, Jayes Gallery is pleased to be showing the works of Nicole Parkins, a newcomer t this region. For Nicole’s first solo show with us, she has painted a selection of small and delightful works inspired by her journeys in Tuscany. Nicole tells us that this regional reminds her of Tuscany with its rolling hills, vineyards, orchards and woodlands dotting the landscape.

Her works are colourful and joyful and we invite you to join us on Sunday 10 April at 2 pm for the opening of Nicole’s show.

Nicole says of her work “First stop on my first venture out of Australia was in the beautiful medieval village of Montecastello, Umbria, Italy. Many of the works on paper in this exhibition were completed while doing a residency in this little town on top of a hill surrounded by classic Italian countryside. The town itself was gorgeous; rustic charm hugged every doorway, corner, or stone paved lane way. From the 360 view around the town, white roads and rivers meandered through the countryside, which I frequently ventured out into on walks, gathering images in my mind to take home. Later, on my return to my studio in Australia, I completed further studies and painted the canvas series. My works are reflections on the many moods of myself, the changing landscape and the stories that it can create and tell.”

In Gallery 2, Josephine's new exhibition "At Home" is aptly titled for whether inside or outside the home, Josephine's colourful and feminine works demonstrate the beauty of the 'everyday'. "At home" provides her with a continuing theme for her bright and decorative paintings, images that will continue to delight you for years to come with their cheerful outlook and clean, clears colours.

Elephant wowed the crowd!

The opening of James Seymour's latest exhibition "Elephant tied to a stick" was well attended by friends and family as well as local art lovers. It was a balmy afternoon in Molong and everyone enjoyed themselves as they considered the artworks and talked to the artist.

The gallery has also been thrilled with the number of people that have made their way during the first week of the show to see James' new works.

Recent months have seen a slowing of the art market however, Jayes is still proud to say that their sales are still happening albeit a little slower than last year this time but still good.

It is young and emerging artists such as James that appear to be holding steady during the first part of 2011. Jayes Gallery is proud to be able to bring this artist to Molong and the Central West for art lovers. Being a Bathurst artist currently studying at National Art School, James is just a t the beginning of a long and promising career. He is still affordable but watch this space, that isn't going to last for long!

"Elephant tied to a stick"

Jayes Gallery is proud to present new works from an exciting and young emerging artist, James Seymour. James is a Bathurst artist who is currently studying Fine Arts at the National Art School in Darlinghurst, Sydney. James works primarily in the fields of printmaking and painting. “Elephant tied to a Stick” is his third solo exhibition, following “Cross Your Fingers” in 2010 and “Big Smoke” in 2009.

“Elephant tied to a stick” is a series of works exploring the ideas of conditioning on societal and personal levels, the restrictions we impose on ourselves (consciously or unconsciously) either to fulfil a social profile, or out of habitual fear, preventing us from reaching our full potential.

The title of this series of works “Elephant tied to a Stick” refers to a story of a circus elephant, raised in captivity with one of its legs tethered to a small stick in the ground. When the elephant was a baby the stick was strong enough to stop him from escaping, it held him there his whole life.

By the time he came of age it was obvious to anyone that the massive animal could easily pull it from the ground, but he never did. The trainers said it was because when the elephant was young he learned that the restraint was immovable, though he grew strong and old, the idea of the stick remained.

We invite you to join us and meet with the artist in Gallery 1 to learn more about James and his work on Sunday afternoon, 13^th March 2011 at 2 pm. This will be an afternoon to enjoy!

"The Living Landscape" by Georgia Mansur draws o a close on 6 March so don't miss out! This has proven to be a most popular show with many people coming through the gallery to take a look at it! Georgia is a strong artist with a broad range of styles and a wide palette of colours . She draws on her skills to create large dramatic landscapes from regional Australia.

Mayor for Cabonne Country, Bob Dowling opened Georgia's show on Sunday 13 February describing his personal favourite from the show along with paying tribute to the cultural contribution that Jayes Gallery makes to the Molong community.

Libby Oldham, the Director was recently included along with several Sydney galleries and Regional galleries in a Speed Dating Event for regional artists to explore opportunities to exhibit and advance their career as artists.

"Seductive Surfaces" - an amazing and not to be missed Workshop

Georgia Mansur will be giving a treat to art lovers, arts practitioners and aspiring artists in an inspiring mixed media workshop during March! Georgia's own style is a 'reflection of her emotional response to the world around her, painting subjects in an expressive style".

Georgia tells us she was inspired to first paint as a creative outlet to help her to cope with the isolation and loneliness of a new lifestyle in this strange and fascinating place of regional Australia. Originally from California, Georgia came to Australia to live west of Moree and the change in lifestyle and place affected her on a very deep and emotional level bringing new life and inspiration into her artworks. She has a very personal and lively way of approaching paint and canvas/paper.

As a TAFE teacher, she also has skills that can assist you, the painter, to explore new techniques and approach your work with new found freedom of expression.

During the next 2 weeks, Jayes continues to bring you the desirable and affordable art pieces that we have become famous for! Getting ready for Christmas at the Gallery!

Well, it's been an amazing year! Full of surprises and we don't know, but the year has just flown by here in Molong. With many new names in our stable, we are just bursting these days with art! All forms of art! Sculptures, pottery, glassware, jewellery and of course, paintings! Our calendar of solo shows were well attended throughout the year with most openings attracting up to 50 people.

We are thrilled with the response of the community to our shows and again we have filled our 2011 calendar with events, workshops and solo shows already! Just to recap...

Current show and such wonderful colours! Wanda Driscoll's works glow on the gallery walls. Her paintings have been inspired by her mid-year trip across the Tanami Desert in Central Australia. Wanda's freedom of brushwork and ability to use splashes to reference the desert landscape are central to her style and these works do not disappoint us. Once again, Wanda has risen to the demand of creating several works on a theme and her exhibition is well worth looking at! The show will finish on 14 November so hurry!

Along with Wanda, we have the photos of Janelle Bowler in Gallery 2. Janelle has a particular eye and her rural bits and pieces are very popular and well worth a visit. Two wonderful artists.

New additions to the gallery!

Jayes Gallery is pleased to announce that the works of potter Cathy Saxby are now available from the gallery shop. Cathy lives in Condobolin in the west of NSW and is an inspired and intriguing new artist. Her works are whimsical and different!

These wonderful small ceramic cups are called "Whimsies" and are a delight to behold! Cathy has brought us a smile or two as we unwrapped her works.

Her pit fired range of Raku pots created with fire and smoke are each produced lovingly and carefully with each displaying it's own intrinsic character and design. These will make a completely different and individual present for someone you would like to impress this Christmas!

The Spirit of Art!

Three wonderful shows opened last weekend at Jayes. Laughter was in the air as Spring sprung into being! This is the biggest show that Jayes has exhibited over recent years with over 36 new paintings and 50 sculptures, pots and 3D works for you to enjoy!

The sun is warmer here in Molong, the air is fresh and we are excited by the support of well known sculptors in this our 'first' ever "Sculpture in the Spring" show!

Jayes Gallery and Sculpture Gardens is like the Tardis of Dr Who fame! It justs gets bigger and bigger the further you go in! With our gallery shop at the front, then Gallery 2 and Gallery 1 and on out to the gardens, it's a wonderful way to while away a sunny afternoon. Have coffee next door, or grab a bite and sit in the gardens for a lazy and cultural afternoon.

Our monthly openings feature artist floor talks so you can get to know what inspires our artists first hand. Last Saturday evening, we were entertained by a wonderful glimpse into the life and work of Melissa Barber, well known for her celebrated "Poppy Series". Melissa explained where she was headed now that the Poppies are spent and life is taking her in a new direction.

Following on from melissa, Ada Clark, famous artist from Millthorpe talked about her travels overseas and the energies and inspiration for her series "The Spirit of Place". These delicate works feature the mosques and archways from her recent travels to the "Stans", Turkistan etc. Two portraits have captured the spirit of the women of the area and hold a special place in the exhibition. Other works from Ada feature the Australian bush land and are filled with strong colours and brush strokes in Ada's energetic and abstracted style.

These are fabulous shows, so we look forward to seeing you soon! Exhibition ends October 10.

Setting up for 3 new shows for Spring!

It's always interesting to get new works through the gallery and a changeover from one show to another. This time though, we have a number of sculptures appearing for our sculpture event. These 3D artworks are adding a new dimension everywhere we look. They sit nicely with the works of Watson in the main gallery and work well with the theme of her work. We particularly like this sculpture by Norman Organ set against the cool canvas inspired by grassfire.

Out in the garden, 'Glimpse of the Moon' and 'Glimpse of the Rising Sun' invite you to stop and caress the smooth marble and granite surfaces of these two flames of stone which stand like sentinels, silent, watching.

New works from lively and much admired artists, Ada Clark and Melissa Barber will open along with Sculptures in the Spring on Saturday 18 September at 6.30 pm.

But hurry as these are the last of Melissa's Poppy paintings....

The latest exhibition of renowned Canowindra artist Melissa Barber celebrates the finale of the original celebrated Poppies Series that quickly became her trademark within the Central West and soon after came to Canberra’s attention in 2004 at the Aarwun Gallery. Deeply influenced by Japanese and Chinese art for their use of negative space versus detail, flat colour and strong use of golds and silvers, Barber’s portrayal of poppies reflects an aesthetically decorative, yet spiritually meditative response to nature. This final Poppies exhibition features recent works and new works from the series. It also includes works that reflect the artistic development of the Poppies into the latest series Glisten.

Watson Show a triumph!

The recent exhibition at Jayes of Sally Watson's clear and pure colours, sculpted fields and formed roads, gentle works that are calm in essence. Watson told us in her floor talk how the burning of the summer fields around her bush home brought fear and tears when she returned from work last summer. Her house, although safe, was surrounded by black ash and burnt paddocks.

Her photos showed the underlying sculptural form of the burnt world, a world that she wasn't able to return to for a while and the grief that she felt when surveying the damage. But her works, which were created from this chaos, have nothing of the darkness that she herself felt or described. Watson worked through the emotional content of that summer fire through these refined drawings and paintings.

It was an excellent introduction that Sally gave us to her work that evening as she spoke quietly of the moments of her returning 'home' and 'homeless'. She gave us generously an insight to her work and the thoughts behind the marks she has now made, a memory inscribed in time.

The exhibition runs to 12 September and is a beautiful show. Hurry, you still have some time left before we bring you the next exhibition, which is quite different from this one.

The freshness of Spring comes to the gallery

Opening on election day, 21 August at 6.30 pm, two women artists bring us new fresh works that will inspire you as we approach Spring. 'Burnt Hills" by Sally Watson and "Wild Woods" by Judy Whitlock are beautiful pared down works of burnt hills, trees and sand dunes. All these works are delicate and intricate with a zen quality that quietens the mind and absorbs the senses.

After the hurley burley of the elections, this is a great show to bring you back to your peaceful heart and most inner self.

All are welcome to attend the opening and we invite you take some time out for yourself and visit the gallery. We are open Wednesday through to Sunday of each week from 10 am - 4 pm.

"Line and Link" - Digital artists challenge the 'way we see'!

Digital art is only just beginning to make its mark in the halls of art here in Australia. Whilst it has been an accepted arts practice in other countries, we are still lagging behind here in our understanding of how important this art form is. Whilst digital art is represented at biennales and art fairs around the globe, Australians still find it hard to comprehend the exact nature of the work attributing it to the computer rather than to the operator artist who has found a new set of tools with which to create.

The two artists in this exhibition, Jolanta Nejman and Phil Salmon have however, been working within computer technology now for over 25 years and so have great skills that can translate now into beautiful and compelling artworks in the new media. They have taken graphic software and pushed it to its limits to produce images of great complexity and sophistication.

Phil shows the ability to push a photographic image to the limit where it crosses the boundary and becomes an artwork whilst Jolanta layers intricate images and develops stylised pictures that stretch our mind.

Two women woo our hearts!

The opening of exhibitions by two very feminine artists, Lara Scolari and Jocelyn Moles was a resounding success. Lara spoke of her work in her inimitable style of waving her arms energetically while speaking brightly of female emotions and passions. Jocelyn also gave a floor talk although from a quieter perspective as is also shown in her work.

One artist is larger than life itself with abundant energy that pours out of her and into the bright bold energetic and large works on display, the other has developed her theme in tiny fragments of iconography and gilt that glow from gold frames in the smaller gallery - both are strong artists who have given a lot of thought to their respective works and painted from the well spring within.

There were over 60 people at the opening and many works were quickly sold on the night which is a testament to how valuable the insights of these two artists are. Some collectors were disappointed as their chosen works sold before they had a chance to get a red dot on them!

The night rolled on into the cafe next door and out into the sculpture garden. It was a heady night, successful for all.

15 May – 13 June - Peter Mortimore's “Of birds & things”

Often a finishing touch to a painting can involve placing a bird in just the right position. Be it a white cockatoo on the wing. To place a splash of white against storm clouds. A bright coloured parrot to add life to an area of a work. It can also be simply painting silhouettes on the wing to take the loneliness out of an empty sky.

When working in the studio, I constantly have the sounds of sparrows, silvereyes and blue wrens, chattering away in the undergrowth and shrubs in the garden outside. A glance out of the window always brings an encounter with a bird of some description.

I do wonder whether in our busy lives we are actually aware of their presence. I started some paintings and drawings of birds last year, so when the invitation was forthcoming to be a part of this exhibition, the theme of birds came to mind. I actually started painting horses and birds right at the beginning when first showing my work.

This body of work will be made up of works of many mediums, watercolour, acrylic, oil, mixed media collage, pencil/graphite drawings and etchings.

I intend it to be a visual celebration of these creatures who are ever present in our daily lives, whether we are aware of them or not.

Rebecca McGirr “The Language of Autumn”

Studying art at school, I am constantly bombarded by the language or interpretation of works of art rather than reflecting on its physical presence.

As this exhibition is held in the last month of autumn, autumn became a theme for the exhibition. Yet while coming up with ideas, even the word Autumn, which in its dictionary meaning is one of the four seasons, has become a symbol or language of its own with an immediate reference to colour. Winter=cold, Spring=flowers, Summer=sun and heat, but Autumn=a Cascade of colour.

Birds are busy in autumn collecting berries; butterflies are busy finding a mate to reproduce so the young develop through winter to hatch in spring. Butterflies seem to be far more present in autumn than any time of the year. Autumn is a vibrant time of the year as life prepares for the bleakness of the winter months.

My work will of course be filed with the colours of autumn, but juxtaposed images of birds, butterflies and other objects of this wonderful season.

I will work in acrylic, oil, mixed media collage and etchings.

My aim is to have every painting possess a life of its own but with the colours blending in like fallen leaves upon the cooling ground. ‘’Autumn is the language of colour, colour is the language of Autumn’’

We are very excited at being able to bring to Jayes Gallery, a collection of fine artworks from private collections for sale for one month only and exclusive to our gallery.

This show will be a heart stopper with some works well over 100 years old. Some of the works made their way by ship to Australia when we were just a colony. One work by John Absolon , British watercolourist, painted in the late 1800's would have been brought over by his son, John de Mansield Absolon who took care of the families shipping interests.

Another outstanding piece is a fine example of Ukiyo-e from Japan. This early woodblock on fine Japanese silk paper is over 100 years old.

This work is an early study for a European Master. The signature is hard to make out so it is a bit of a mystery but still a fine work of art and a beautiful example of what can be found still today on that rare occasion that collectors release their works for sale. This work was purchased from a convent at Perthville some 35 years ago by the collector.

Many of the works are in their original frames and haven't been changed so the patina of age is with them. These are stunning works that would make a statement in heritage houses or homes of antique collectors and discerning buyers.

"Where the Heart Is" - Exhibition by Josephine Jagger-Manners

Josephine Jagger-Manners is a multi-award winning restaurateur and wife of the celebrated Michael Manners. Having retired as a restaurateur, and from the highly acclaimed Selkirks Restaurant, in 2007, Josephine is now able to pursue a life long desire to paint pictures. Self-taught, Josephine enjoys painting what she sees as snippets of country life and domesticity.

Josephine’s first exhibition at her home in Molong NSW in 2009 was a great success. Viewers responded enthusiastically to her whimsical take on everyday life at home and in the garden. Josephine’s use of colour is always vibrant and reflects her lifestyle. For Josephine at present spending time painting from her home, surrounded by her large and prolific garden, truly is for her “Where the Heart Is!”

Although Josephine is a new artist coming to her passion late in life, she has had a fair grounding in art early. Josephine won a scholarship to attend the selective girl’s school in Hartlepool N E England. Art became her major subject and she achieved 98% for Art/Art History in her GCE Exam (top 1% in Britain). Josephine remembers being influenced at that time by Turner, Cezanne and Gaughin.

"The Eye of the Eagle" opened to a large crowd last night at Jayes in Molong. Joy gave a floor talk to explain the thoughts behind many of the works which have focussed on climate change over recent years. Her works vary from small vignettes through to large canvases, with bright and coloured landscapes inspired by the outback.

Climate Change impacts an artist’s vision!

Life couldn’t be hotter than it has been in Joy Engelman’s studio recently. Not only has Joy had the hottest summer on records beating down through the walls of the studio and making the air muggy, but the theme for her new artworks are also painted in the hottest of colours as she grapples with the ideas of climate change, desert landscapes and the outback.

Joy has spent several hours of her life staring from the windows of planes as her various trips have taken her high over the Australian desert and the exposed and extreme forms that make up this amazing and colourful place. The colours and abstract patterns have embedded themselves in her psyche and she calls on these time and time again to paint the place that she often calls “This Sacred Place”. Added to these experiences, her journeys into the desert regions to photograph and document at close range, have all left their impact.

This new exhibition “The Eye of the Eagle” demonstrates this artist’s ability to capture and map out the outback from an aerial perspective through the laying down of washes and glazes, salts and inks in an abstract fashion with mixed media. Joy takes inspiration from the ancient landforms and a country that is the oldest on earth.

Joy states “I wanted to explore the way an eagle sees the landscape from 600 metres or more above. When reading eagle vision, I was amazed to learn that eagles have penta-chromatic vision. This gives them the ability to also see colours in the infra-red and ultra-violet ranges. They see less green than us and far more colour. This is more like the way I see for I am far more aware of colour than a lot of other people seem to be and so I felt quite at home working this way.”

Engelman believes we can all learn from this land if we take the time to look at the geology of the place and understand the forces over time that has formed the land. We might even come to terms with climate change and know that these forces that play a big part in our lives currently, have happened many times before.

Her strong works can form a warning to us in these hotter days or they can be seen as highly colourful abstracts that have a strong Australian flavour.

The exhibition runs from 5 February through to 7 March at Jayes Gallery, 31-33 Gidley Street, Molong in Central NSW.

Well it's the end of the year, almost, and so much to still see and do. Our main gallery has a wonderful collection of gifts for that special person in your life! All hand made craft and art works by Australian artists.

There's jewelery, highly individual pieces featuring glass and stone, gems and silver, pieces that you won't see on anyone else as each is individually designed and handcrafted by some of the best, glass works by inspired glassblowers and slump artists, pottery and divine collages, an art book plus paintings all highly collectible pieces from new and emerging artists.

We think this is one of our most interesting shows of the year as it brings all of the artists from our stable together under one roof especially for you to enjoy and collect.

Our sculpture garden is filled with wonderful sculptures, emus and roosters, archways and fish bowls. There's always something new, fresh and invigorating, that special piece to liven the garden.

And here's the piece de resistence! We lovingly call him Steve the Security Guy as we can't find out his name. It is however, a strong sculptural piece from Tim Kyle which makes a statement that pervades the entire gallery. Steve has raised quite a few reactions from loud laughing, through to timid giggles, amazed responses and some embarrassed stares. We're quite fond of him.

If you get a chance, don't forget to pop into Jayes. During 2009, we have had a turnover of over 400 pieces through the galleries, cafes and gardens. Most of these will never be seen again in Molong so if you missed out during the year, well, sigh, you just missed out!

Artworks don't stay long in the gallery, so make it a new year's pledge to get along to Jayes on a regular basis next year. You will be inspired!

Well we've just had the busiest week of our year with two exhibitions mounted - Sculptures in the garden now on at Orange Highland Gardens in Orange and Marian Duncan's new show at the gallery in Molong.

We've had time to now draw our breath and start to catch up on our blogs and news .... at last!

Sculpture in the Gardens

"Dreamweaver" by Vikki Blazeley

Out in country NSW, they are racing to get the best sculptors from the region to show their works in a new annual event, Sculptures in the Garden. This year the inaugural exhibition will run over 6 weeks to coincide with Wine Week and National Field Days in Orange NSW, two other well-known and established events.

Hugh and Libby Oldham of Jayes Gallery, owners of a city styled art gallery located at Molong have joined forces with regional vignerons, Ross and Helen Harrison of Orange Highland Gardens to develop what can only be described as a treat. These people have all opted over recent years to make a tree change and they have brought to Orange and Cabonne Country, their skills from city living.

The works of some of the regions finest sculptors will be set in the beautiful gardens and vineyard established by Ross and Helen over recent years and overlooking the vistas of Mt Canobolas and the valleys beyond. A fabulous setting and a great day out!

“Sculpture in the Gardens” will run from Saturday October 10 to Sunday November 22 and entry will be free. There will be cool climate wines to be tasted at the cellar door but bring your picnic baskets along as you will want to stay longer and enjoy a leisurely stroll around the vines and gardens as well as look at what country sculptors can devise.

Judging by the response, it is anticipated many regional sculptors and potters of note will have their artworks on display and for sale. Arrangements can be made to freight the works to your own gardens should you wish to take the opportunity to buy at country prices what could be excellent investments. Visitors will be invited to participate in People’s Choice Voting to select the best and most impressive work.

Ross and Helen Harrison started work on their 50 acres. The property was formerly an apple and pear orchard in 2004. At the time it had just one tree, very few native birds and no earthworms.

Their first priority was to establish the vineyard and this endeavour took a year from the planning phase to planting of the vines. Next they turned their attention to the gardens and these photos show the stunning results. In 2008, the Harrisons received two awards for their gardens…best new garden and best commercial garden.

And as they say “a picture is worth 1,000 words” so with Spring upon us, visitors to the cellar door at Orange Highland Wines and Gardens at Nashdale can view photos which show the growth and development of the gardens over just 3 to 4 years.

An event that designed to please, and with something for all the family, the Harrisons and Oldhams invite you to come and enjoy yourselves and help to ensure this event becomes an annual affair.

It’s all atmosphere at Molong in September!

Grey skies and atmospheric landscapes surrounded by bronze sculptures set the scene this coming September in an exhibition “Journey / Through my hands”. This show consists of paintings and sculptures by artists Aida Pottinger and Brett “Mon” Garling.

Aida’s moody and mysterious explorations of dark and light through landscape forms are part of her very personal journey. They reflect a past ridden with war and migration, as her mother fled from Latvia to England where Aida was born. Her life brought her to Australia and in a life filled with the extremes of dark and light, warmth and coldness, clarity and obfuscation, Aida explores her own personal landscape through these highly internalised works. They are works that invoked the descriptive response from Peter Haynes, Director of ACT Museums and Galleries recently “a highly atmospheric, dream-like presentation with an air of mystery and nostalgia that captures the veils of memory.”

Alongside these works sit the strong bronze sculptures of Brett “Mon” Garling who works from his own foundry at Wongarbon. These are traditional works from a conservative artist who takes pride in achieving excellence both in sculpture and painting as demonstrated in this regional exhibition. His rural scenes show familiar places to a regional onlooker and demonstrate what might be seen by a city dweller visiting the country.

Both artists have strong references in their work to the great British artists of the past as both have been similarly inspired by English past masters, bringing their influences strongly into this show. It is a pleasing and inspiring exhibition and one not to be missed.

The exhibition opens on Saturday September 5 at Jayes Gallery in Molong and closes on October 4.

Opening a grand success!

The opening night for Di Smith and Edwina Riddell's latest artworks was a resounding success with many attending and several works now sold.

Friends and artlovers combined to show their support for these two emerging artists at Jayes.

Di's works glow from the walls with their rich colours and fresh brushstrokes. The works draw you in as you contemplate Di's free approach and heightened sense of colour that brings new light to daily objects.

Edwina's works are gentle and subtle descriptions of the dancer Nijinsky. Her style is as light as a feather in the same vein as the dancer she illustrates so capably. Her pencil lines bring movement to the works. These are beautiful images.

"Life / Still Life" - Opens 31 July!

Jayes Gallery is pleased to introduce two emerging artists in their first exhibition together. In an exhibition well worth viewing “Life / Still Life” with Orange artist, Di Smith and her friend, illustrator, Edwina Riddell we see two artists who both take a fresh look at life and those everyday items we all take for granted. Both have a strong sense of colour and a love for their particular mediums that shows in these expressive works.

Smith paints with loose, vibrant colours her new works of interiors and rustic farm life. Whilst Di is still developing her own ‘language’, she has executed these works deftly with expressive brushstrokes and strong colours straight from the palette.

Di says of her work “My approach to creating a painting is to capture the way a scene or setting affects me.

I like to represent this with robust and colourful strokes in a form of realism. In this way I show the energy and beauty held within a scene as well as the unique completeness that is often overlooked in that scene. My travels have shown me that people have always sought comfort and order, so my subjects - whether life or still life – are simple things we choose to spend our lives with or to see.”

Riddell’s works are painstakingly put together in watercolours and pencils. These works explore the dancer Nijinsky and the energy contained within his dance set against everyday objects.

The artist states “I have been drawing forever and illustrating for many years but felt I needed more room for self-expression.

I enjoy the spontaneity of watercolour, the richness of oil paints and the subtle depths of blended colour that can be achieved with coloured pencils which is what I have used here.

In these works I'm exploring the concepts of life and still life. The dancer Nijinsky fascinates me. No film of his dancing exist, only still images attempt to capture his vitality, a legendary life frozen in time He is juxtaposed against the vibrant presence of still life subjects.”

We invite you to join us at the opening at 6.30 pm on Friday July 31 and meet the artists in person for what will be a delightful show. The exhibition closes on August 30.

Gallery takes out an award!

Jayes Gallery won a prestigious award at the Cabonne Country Daroo Business Awards last Friday night! Libby Oldham, Gallery Director, was speechless at winning the award after entering for the last 10 years! So it was appropriate that she walked to podium and then jsut couldn't find the words that she needed to describe her delight.

Husband, Hugh Oldham has been etching the glass plate awards for the last 10 years and has plenty of rejects on the studio floor, but now both of them are pleased to be able to display one in their own premises.

Well done! Jayes Gallery is a definite bright spot in rural NSW and something we, the staff, are very proud of!

Substratum opens to a throng of art lovers!

Well! After a hectic week, Substratum and Inferno opened to around 50 to 60 art lovers on Saturday night! Alan Sisley, Director of the Orange Regional Gallery gave a warm speech praising Michal Carroll's works inspired by recent journeys to the volcanic regions of Chile.

Everyone was warm in the gallery even though it was a chilly evening in Molong. But it was an enthusiastic and eager crowd that took in the evening's celebrations. Inferno glassware by internationally renowned artist, Keith Rowe glowed throughout the night providing a very suitable foil for Michael's grey works of the Maoi and earthy rocky landscapes.

Inferno glassworks glowing in the afternoon sun! It would be wonderful to have these on a glass shelf in a winter's window. They would brighten and warm any room.....fabulous!

"devolution" - Michael's expressive works on subterranean forces

A recent journey by well-known and respected Molong artist, Michael Carroll, to the Andes and South America has resulted in a collection of powerful and intriguing works. These depict his journey where he reconnected with the primal forces of nature. These works can be described as atmospheric and volcanic. The intense moods of the region’s volcanic substratum are reflected in emotive abstract works.

It is through these works that the artist explores the primeval connection of humanity and the soul in a raw and active landscape – the Andes continue to thrust upwards and soon (in earth’s time) will be higher than the Himalayas.

Michael has held many one man shows over his extensive career and has a wide range of capabilities. He has recently been drawn to giclee reproductions of his larger works now making these more affordable.

"Inferno" - a series of spectacular glassworks referencing volcanic lava

Making an impact along with Michael’s works are the strong glassworks of Keith Rowe, a well-known glassblower with an international reputation.

Keith Rowe is first a glassblower who also enjoys working with kiln casting and sand. His long and extensive career spanning over 25 years ensures the works are always beautifully finished and highly collectible. He has a very individual style that is reflected in the number of awards this artist has won over the years.

Jayes Gallery is thrilled to be able to bring Keith’s glass to Molong. The selection of hand blown glass in brilliant reds and oranges glow like the volcanic forces alluded to in Michael’s work. As such, they provide an excellent foil to the strong greys of the paintings.

James Seymour had a very successful first show at Jayes with over 50% of his work already sold; one before the opening. We are thrilled with James work. He is an exciting young artist that shows a lot of potential and one worth watching as his career develops.

James work looked great in gallery 2 and we were pleased with the number of people who came to support him on the night. His works are strong and commanding. They hold your attention and encourage you to look deeper for the meaning of each individual piece.

Katie had a wonderful response to her bright and cheerful works in gallery 1. Many works sold on the opening night but there are still excellent works to be had if you are quick. Her works are free and colourful, with iconography drawn from her everyday experiences living in the region.

Both surprising and challenging, the works of two contemporary artists at Jayes Gallery provide an insight to the modern mind.

The works are as different to each other as work can be; the bright and cheerful pastiches of Katie Barton bouncing off the dark and sombre works of new artist, James Seymour."Big Smoke" by James Seymour.

"Issa Chooks" by Katie Barton

The small collection of works contained within James "Big Smoke" Series are strong and commanding of our full attention. This young man has a big future ahead of him in the arts as these thought provoking images contain all the elements that are required for success. They bring you to a halt, demand that you reflect on them and draw you into their smoky images of contained raw energy. James says of his series "In essence, this body of work is a document of the shift between town and city life. I have lived in the country town of Bathurst my whole life up until moving to the city this year, I found the change both challenging and invigorating. My works can be seen as snapshots of the city and the encounters I have had within it. Alternatively, they can be viewed as metaphorical landscapes which describe the space between the city and my hometown."

The second collection of works "Life's Pecking Order", and exhibited in the Main Gallery are from well known Central West artist, Katie Barton. Her works have been shown in solo shows successfully throughout the region especially in Mudgee and Wellington. Katie has been awarded for her highly original works and statements on country life.

Katie says of her upcoming exhibition "This is not an exhibition just about chooks but chooks symbolize beautifully the natural order of how humans and animals interact with each other. We all have our place in society and more particularly, with our friends, families and communities – sometimes we accept our position and sometimes we reject and fight it or it just changes as life does. Our Isa Brown chooks fascinate me – the way they assert themselves with the dogs and each other. They have survived a few massacres where other breeds haven’t and newcomers always have to earn their place in the pen before they’re accepted. All the working dogs have their ranking by age, strength and personality. Our Maltese Terrier is the smallest of the clan but the bossiest and seems to ignore all the rules. This exhibition is a small representation of the “pecking order” in my immediate environment at home and general observations of this theme, conveyed in mixed media works on paper and acrylic paintings on canvas."

"The Way We See It!" - Eris Fleming & Greg Hyde

Well a right pair of larrikins have been very successful in their latest show of humorous works at the Jayes Gallery. A lovely crowd turned up on the night with over 50 attending the opening of this uplifting exhibition.

In these economic times, it's getting harder to sell art or so they say! Not so this week with many red dots appearing on the bright and cheerful works. Seems most people still want to laugh and these wonderful cryptic views on life in the outback are just the thing to bring a smile.

The show will close on Sunday 12 May so get on your togs and get on out here!

"Identity" got underway last weekend with a strong crowd of supporters and friends at Jayes Gallery. There was a lot of excitement as people crowded into the room to discuss, view and read the stories behind Nyree's latest show.

Nyree's strength lies in her ability to tell a story and many people were saddened by what they read, many viewers expressed their concern for the past and the lessons we all need to learn and remember.

This is indeed, an exhibition well worth coming to see......it ends soon so don't take too long to come out to Molong and visit the gallery!

"Identity" by Nyree (Ngari) Reynolds

Jayes Gallery is proud to be presenting the recent artworks of highly regarded artist, Nyree (Ngari) Reynolds in her latest exhibition "Identity".

In what is proving to already be a controversial show, Nyree explores the stories of the "Stolen Generations", a story which is close to her heart.

In these ephemeral and quite beautiful works, the figures float surreal across the vivid Australian outback. The works evoke a sense of loss and heartbreak. Nyree has shown through her work, that she is a strong storyteller and is able to more than capably get her message across to the viewer.

She has come to the attention of David Hill (writer) as well through her explorations of the Fairbridge Farm story, a story she says has many parallels to the Stolen Generations. David will make a special journey to see her exhibition which delights Nyree and confirms her explorations.

The exhibition opens with a preview on Friday night, March 6 from 6.00 pm for our regular collectors. This will give them an opportunity to purchase before the official opening.

The official opening is on Sunday March 8 at 2.30 pm. There are a few surprises in store for those who attend with special guests on the day.

Denis is a real winner!

A wonderful opening for the Denis Bradley exhibition with over 40 people attending. A surprise on the day for exhibition goers was a concert from the the Orange Male Voice Choir!

Music filled the gallery on this hot and sunny afternoon as laughter and fun greeted Denis and his paintings! What a grand way to enjoy a Sunday afternoon......the paintings were scrutinised, several sold and everyone left late feeling quite content....

The show continues for a couple of weeks so there is still time to catch a glimpse of Denis's world if you hurry!

The next exhibition begins on March 8th so we hope to see you there! Remember, Jayes Gallery is a just a short drive west of Orange and is a great way to speand an idle afternoon! Lovely drive through the Australian countryside.

Contemporary Realist Landscapes by Denis Bradley

Our first solo show for the 2009 season will be from artist, Denis Bradley. Although this is Denis's first solo show, he is no newcomer to the arts with a long career spanning many years.

He has been included in many group exhibitions and is well established with a clear style of his own. His love of the land shines through these works to communicate his connection with 'place' to the viewer. Strong works, colourful and bold!

Denis is a local having grown up at "Jindalee" at Borenore so the influence of Mt Canobolas and the extraordinary landscape of this region was already well integrated within his artistic sensibility at a young age. Recent years have been spent around South Coast which has led him to a wider influence.

We invite you to the opening on Sunday 8 February at 2.30 in the Main Gallery or if you wish, you can share a lunchoen with Denis in the Cafe from 12.30 (bookings are essential for lunch though).

What a great startup to the new year! "Director's Choice" has been well received and an exciting exhibition from our regular exhibiting artists. We have had an influx of people from far and wide over the holidays, all interested in what we have achieved so far. Many have promised to return for our exhibitions.

This year, we have a full calendar of events already programmed and we are thrilled with the new names in our stable, many of them well respected and established artists of note.

It promises to be a challenging year on many levels, however, we feel sure that the quality and high standard of our stable of artists will encourage you to attend our openings on a regular basis.

We thank all of our patrons, buyers and collectors throughout 2008 that helped us keep our doors open and we look to building an even better presence in the art world throughout the coming months.

It is our intention to continue to promote regional artists and look forward to meeting you all again this year!

All are welcome, children included at the gallery and cafe. Remember we are open Wednesdays - Sundays from 10 - 4.

The Director and staff of Jayes Gallery wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

During 2008, we have made a number of changes at Jayes and defined the exhibition spaces into more focussed areas.

The Main Gallery now has an exhibition program in place for 2009-2010 of regular solo shows for career and professional artists. The stable is strong with representation from well known and highly recognised regional artists of note.

The Smalls Gallery, adjoining the Main, will run a series of solo shows from new and emerging artists in conjunction with the openings for the Main Gallery. This will provide valuable exposure to these artists and assist them to build their career in a positive way.

The Cafe Gallery will continue to exhibit the works of local artists, works that have great appeal as affordable works for that special gift or a memento of your journey to Molong and the Central West.

The Sculpture Garden will be further developed and host a range of sculpture exhibitions throughout 2009. We look forward to this as being an exciting new sculpture space which inspires and pleases.

During 2009, we are looking to sourcing the best creative works from silversmiths, potters, jewellery makers and other specialist crafts people as we continue to build the gallery as a regional art space for all. If you are, or know of, a jeweller or craftsperson, then please invite them to see us at the gallery.

Our first craftsman is Kevin Watts, Woodturner with a very smart collection of woodware for the discerning collector or buyer. An example of Kevin's work here below.......

Smalls Gallery - will have a range of new and exciting young and adventurous artists with works from our stockroom. This gallery will changeover with our solo program of events.

Cafe Gallery - reserved for local artists - these are lovely works, affordable and great for gifts and special occasions.

Sculpture Garden - the new sculpture gardens at the rear of the galleries, is inviting and cool to walk around on a summer's afternoon.

Why not join us in 2009 for a coffee in the sculpture garden, a light lunch in the cafe or an evening meal with friends.

Opening a huge success!

Well Sunday's opening of the "Affordable and Collectable for Christmas" exhibition was a huge success with an amazing collection of artists work from around the region. With works from as far away as Forster, Mudgee, Dubbo, Canowindra, Millthorpe, Orange and Bathurst, this year's show is proving to be very popular.

Sales have been excellent so far but there is still time to find that particular artwork or sculpture for someone special!

The show was opened by the new Mayor of Cabonne, Mayor Kevin Duffy who gave a rousing speech in support of country arts. The opening was well attended with guests from as far away as America......a grand opening and everybody had a good time!

The new sculpture garden was open and a sculpture sold on the day! So the one you won't see again as it has gone to someone's home for Christmas is pictured here!

"Affordable & Collectable for Christmas"

This month at Jayes Gallery, we will be having our annual "Affordable & Collectable for Christmas" Show with over 50 artworks all under the price of $400.

It is a show that is sure to have something for everyone with a fine collection of new works from our invited regional artists. The works come from as far Wellington, Dubbo, Parkes, Orange, Millthorpe, Canowindra and beyond. It is also a great show to to show the diversity of arts practice in the 'bush', the different styles and subjects that artists draw on for their paintings and art objects.

We have shown here just one of the works "Splash" by artist, Libby O'Neill, that will be for sale in this 'not to be missed' exhibition!

The show ends on Christmas Eve but works can be taken on the day of sale so that you can have it gift wrapped and ready on the day!

We look forward to seeing you in our gallery! Don't forget to drop into the cafe also and have a look at the work on display there also whilst enjoying a fine dining experience with new cuisine from Chef, Grant!

"Beyond the Blue Mountains"

Over 30 people attended the opening of our latest exhibition...an exciting collection of free and expressive works featuring landscapes beyond the Blue Mountains by well known regional artist, Wanda Driscoll.

Wanda has achieved many awards during her extensive arts career including prizes from the Sydney Royal Easter Show and Canberra Royal Art Show. Her works show a skill that is only developed through years of practice and an educated eye.

The painting featured here is "Canowindra Gold" Acrylic on Canvas 100 cm x 120 cm and shows the vibrant colours of the Cabonne Country landscape.

Wanda's exhibition finishes on November 9 so make sure you don't miss it!

Exhibition Opening a Success!

Well a good time was had by all attending the exhibition opeing "Under Autumn Skies" last Sunday.

As well as looking fabulous on the walls of the gallery, the exhibtion drew many admiring comments and sales were made......several paintings sold......which is always good for the artist and the gallery.

Despite the current economic bad news, art all around the world seems to be holding it own....with many of the major auction houses saying sales of art is up. Maybe when the stock market fails, investors return to the art market...we certainly hope so.

In any case, Jayes Gallery is pleased to be able to bring a range of excellent artist to the main gallery each month and look forward to your continued interest.

Wanda Driscoll's exhibition is opening soon.....keep coming back for the news!

Autumn Tones give Spring Exhibition a winning edge!

Inspired by the autumn colours earlier this year, Joy Engelman has painted her way through colours of wine and cream creating landscapes that draw you in with their beauty. The Australian bush reverberates through an iconography that is purely defined in these works.

Semi-abstracted landscapes that exist only on these canvases, the works are 'pretty'. She explains that her journey to Florence, Italy last year exposed her to amazing 'beauty' at the Uffizi and the Pitti Palace, notwithstanding the artworks that adorn every wall and ceiling throughout Florence. Unashamedly glorious artworks that inspire the soul and brought Engelman back to that place within herself.

Joy says for the main, we have lost our European 'soul' and are ashamed to see 'beauty' and paint 'beauty', preferring instead to choose to 'see' Australia as a raw and unforgiving landscape. But this year, Engelman notices skies, grasses, mountains and fields that are 'glorious' and has chosen to paint them for us. We invite you to visit this exhibition!

Jayes opened their new program of solo exhibitions with an exceptional crowd on Sunday 24 2008.

Over 40 people attended to see this latest exhibition of wonderful and expressive works by Ada Clark "Turkey in Molong". Ada, an amazing painter who wields a brush with such ease and with such an great sense of colour, brings us her collection straight from the Turkish Embassy in Canberra.

Her views on Turkey need to be seen up close to be appreciated so come along and see this wonderful show before it closes on September 15.

Recently we have extended our site to include a city style gallery for career and professional artists to exhibit their works. Our stable consists of several well known and recognized artists from regional Australia and we are constantly looking for new talent.

A smaller gallery holds works from our regular exhibitors plus local works from emerging and aspiring artists. As well, we include many local and regional artists on the walls of the adjoining cafe where you can indulge in great foodie delights from Grant, our Chef!

Do come and visit us and take time to stroll around the courtyard, admire the art, learn about regional artists, eat good food and drink copious coffees in the afternoon sun!
